Excellent evaluation instrument to measure the "5-C's" of Positive Youth Development
Attached is an excellent evaluation instrument from the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development at Tufts University. It is designed to measure "the 5 C's (Competence, Connection, Confidence, Caring and Character)", and is being developed as part of the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development. It is being utilized in the 4-H Mentoring, Youth and Families with Promise Program in Utah (Incidentally, more information about this mentoring program can be found in this preliminary process evaluation report from the JRSA that goes into some depth regarding program practice http://www.jrsainfo.org/pubs/reports/preliminary-process-evaluation.pdf)
According to the guidelines, the instrument is free to use and requires no written permission. However, if you decide to use the measure, you are asked to please send a summary of the results and a copy of any papers or publications that result from the study to: Richard M. Lerner, Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development, Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development, 301 Lincoln Filene Building, Tufts University, Medford, MA 02155; e-mail:
