This funding stream is designed to support street-based outreach services for runaway, homeless and street youth. Funding is designed to support street outreach staff in building relationships with and providing services to homeless youth in their own environment using an array of communication strategies that encourage trust and willingness to seek shelter and other services. Street outreach programs must address the immediate needs of street youth (food, clothing, shelter, etc.) through appropriate referrals or direct interventions. Programs must also focus on improving the behavioral and physical health of street youth, providing them with employment and educational supports, and services promoting positive youth development including mentoring, peer mentoring, service-learning and youth leadership activities.
