Liability Release
I am interested in knowing what the typical policy mentoring programs operate under regarding liability releases. We have our mentee's families sign a release at the time of application, but also require one each time they participate in an activity. Is it necessary to have the duplication for each activity participating in?
We have not used this in an actual program, but in the attached SAMPLE POLICIES file you can see the transportation and overnight/out-of-town travel policies that we include in our generic program policy and procedure manual.
Basically, the travel policy indicates that parents only need to grant permission for these longer trips (which can only happen once the match is over a year old). This was intended for a typical community-based program model. Obviously, this policy might look different for a site-based program, such as one working in the schools.
