End of year activity
I'm looking for a fun, end-of-year activity for our school-based mentoring program. The couple activities I have in mind are craft-based and I'm concerned that teenage boys may not like them (and a couple of my mentors!). I really wanted to do something with photos but I'm open to ideas.
Our program serves 40 students, grades 3-12, so we could have a different activity for elementary and secondary students.
Thanks for your help!
Hi Christine - The National Mentoring Center did a Webinar last year on infusing creativity into mentoring. Sarah Kremer with Friends for Youth, did an excellent job of talking about how using the arts can build stronger mentoring relationships, and she also highlighted a number of creative activities that you might find helpful. You can view the entire Webinar and see the accompanying materials by clicking here. Scroll down about 3/4 of the way and you'll see several Webinars listed, including this one. One of the accompanying pieces to this Webinar also lists a number of art resources you might find helpful.
Our HS mentoring program incorporates a showcase at the end of each semester. As each mentor/mentee get to know each other during the year, they come up with something they present jointly in front of other pairs. Some recent examples we've had include: doing profiles of each other, writing and performing guitar music, building and flying a kite, singing a song, creating animation, cooking a dish to share, and demonstrating different hairstyles. The ideas are only limited by the pair's interest and imagination and is a great way to cap off their time together!
