Study: Mentoring in school settings can help children control emotions and behavior
Just came across a new piece of research on a school-based mentoring program aimed at imparting behavioral traits like discipline, anger control, social skills:
"The study conducted by the Researchers at University of Rochester Medical Center has revealed that the children enrolled in a school-run mentoring program were more capable of handling anger and other emotions than others, thereby facing fewer disciplinary referrals."
It's worth noting that this was not a typical school-based mentoring model: the matches were only for three months and they were very focused on these behavioral skills. It could be viewed as being more of a skill development class than a mentoring program. But, this is still more evidence that mentoring has an impact, and that highly focused mentoring efforts can produce the specific impacts they are looking for.
