New study and webinar on Beliefs and Values of Tweens
Hi everyone - I recently received an announcement about a new report on a national study from the Girl Scouts Research Institute and the National Collaboration for Youth that I thought would be interesting for many of us working in the youth development field. The study, Good Intentions: The Beliefs and Values of Teens and Tweens Today (2009), will be released today.
The study, conducted by Harris Interactive, builds on a 1989 study and explores what youth today value and how they go about making decisions, based on research conducted with 3,263 3rd- to 12th-graders from around the country. It paints an encouraging picture about a generation of youth responsible to themselves and to others, and who value diversity, acceptance, and community involvement. It also highlights the important role that adults play in helping girls actualize their good intentions.
A webinar on the study is being held December 9 at 3 pm EST. The organizers say that the webinar will be of interest to anyone who works with kids - teachers, administrators, volunteers, policymakers, non-profit organizations, and others. Those of you who have mentors matched with adolescents may want to let them know about this event as well.
