These grants from SAMSHA for peer-to-peer recovery support services specifically mention mentoring as a strategy. The awards are not for funding medical treatment or medical personnel, but rather to provide peer mentoring, coaching and other support to people in recovery, as well as activities and other supports for family members and significant others. My reading of the RFP is that the funding is for adults and/or youth, such as youth transitioning from foster care and homeless youth (pg 62). Programs providing family mentoring around substance abuse recovery might also be particularly interested in this RFP. The grants are for providing "emotional support" which "refers to demonstrations of empathy, caring, and concern that bolster one’s self-esteem and confidence. Peer mentoring, peer coaching, and peer-led support groups are examples of peer-to-peer recovery support services that provide emotional support."
