Although aimed at teachers and school administrators, this major report just released by the Carnegie Corporation on assessing adolescent reading will be of great interest to school-based mentoring and tutoring programs, and afterschool programs with a strong academic focus. A companion report to Carnegie's Time to Act (http://carnegie.org/literacy/tta/pdf/tta_Main.pdf), it analyzes and rates commonly used reading comprehension tests for various elements and purposes and outlines trends in types of questions, stress on critical thinking, and screening or diagnostic functions.
